Walmart tech exec heads to Nordstrom

Jason Morris, a senior vice president of Walmart’s global technology division, has been hired as the chief technology and information officer at Nordstrom, effective May. 1. Morris will succeed Edmond Mesrobrian who left Nordstrom in October.

Morris will oversee Nordstrom’s technology functions, including engineering and data science and analytics. The retailer said he will also help to deploy radio frequency identification chain-wide this year.

“(He) Jason has a wealth of experience leading large, global teams to create and implement best-in-class retail technology solutions,” said Erik Nordstrom, CEO of Nordstrom. “He will play a critical role as we continue to advance our ‘Closer to You’ market strategy, and we look forward to welcoming him to the team.”

His 22 years of experience includes overseeing Walmart’s customer-facing technology, system development and implementation of hardware and software in more than 10,000 locations globally. He also worked in Walmart’s retail business, merchandising, replenishment, supplier management, real estate and global compliance.

Morris has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and is a board member of the Arkansas Research Alliance, and is a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the University of Arkansas. He will relocate from Northwest Arkansas to Seattle for the new job.
