The annual parade on Garrison Avenue in downtown Fort Smith was highlighted by a joint performance of the Northside and Southside High School marching bands. Dr. Paul Beran, chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, and his wife, Janice, participated in the parade, as did numerous church and civic organizations that ensured plenty of candy was tossed to parade watchers.

Horses and their riders, followed closely by trucks from the Fort Smith Department of Sanitation, marked the end of the parade — an indication of good organization.
