Clarance Eldon Armstrong, better known as “Red” or “Corky”, of Branch, Arkansas, died Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Pink Bud Nursing Center in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was born on December 16, 1931, in Burlington, Kansas, to the late Clarance Armstrong and Gladys (Hummel) Armstrong. He was 94 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Geneva (Lee) Armstrong; a brother, Hugh Melvin Armstrong; and a sister, Mildred Lucille Hooper.

Red’s family moved to Nebraska when he was 8 years old. He joined the U.S. Air Force in February, 1952, and served a tour in Korea flying in a B-26 over North Korea. He was discharged in 1956, and became a mechanic where he spent 25 years with the Corps of Engineers on the Arkansas River. After his retirement, Red retired to a small farm northeast of Branch, Arkansas. Red was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran, a member of American Legion Post #8, and was of the Methodist faith. He loved his friends and community very much and will be missed by all who knew him.

Graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bill VanMeter.

He is survived by a daughter, Melanie Brown of Pocola, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Aaron Maxwell, Ryan Roper and Heath Roper; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post #8.

Public viewing will begin on Tuesday, June 23rd from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
