Nonprofits in Northeast Arkansas needed support and in 1955 a fundraising organization, United Fund opened in Jonesboro. The organization changed to United Way Global in 1972.
The United Way of Northeast Arkansas fundraises for many nonprofits and causes throughout the region. The partner with many local businesses and host a number of fundraisers each year. Those fundraisers include NEA Sings, a golf tournament, a softball tournament and others.
The organization takes applications from nonprofits and those it intends to fund are told in the summer and then funding begins the next January. One of its main programs in the stuff the bus program that provides school supplies for children in 20 school districts across a seven county area in NEA.
In addition to businesses and fundraisers, there are many who directly donate to the organization.
