The Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority was formed in 2009 to spur economic and job growth in the region. It’s composed of three counties — Lawrence, Randoph and Sharp — and it has four cities that are members: Ash Flat, Corning, Pocahontas, and Walnut Ridge.
It’s managed by an 18-member board and Graycen Bigger is the executive director. Industry recruitment, workforce expansion, infrastructure and site development are among the organization’s objectives in the region.
The Intermodal touts its geographic position when he recruits industries. About 40% of the population in the country is within a days drive of the region and it has numerous rail lines and interstate highways that connect. It also is not far from several rivers in the region including the Mississippi River.
