The businesses that drive Northeast Arkansas

The 2026 Northeast Arkansas Outstanding Business Award nominees remind us of what truly drives our regional economy: local businesses that serve their customers, employees, and communities every day.

Growing up here, I’ve had a front-row seat to Jonesboro’s exciting transformation. That progress is a direct result of small businesses and the entrepreneurs who not only dedicate their lives to their ventures but also invest their capital and create the jobs that build our local economy.

As a Northeast Arkansas banker and on behalf of Arvest Bank, which proudly sponsors this annual program, I am honored to help recognize the entrepreneurs, operators, and organizations whose efforts strengthen the place we all call home.

We sponsor the Outstanding Business Awards because successful businesses are important. They serve customers throughout our region, hire and develop local talent, attract visitors and investments, and drive the momentum that supports long-term economic growth. Equally important, many of these businesses reinvest their time, resources, and leadership into the community, backing nonprofits, schools, and civic initiatives that make Northeast Arkansas a better place to live and work.

This year’s nominees highlight the diversity and depth of our business community, including manufacturers, construction firms, restaurants, retailers, startups, and nonprofit organizations. Although their industries and sizes differ, these businesses share essential qualities: a commitment to excellence, a focus on their people and customers, and resilience in overcoming challenges. Every successful company has faced tough times. What sets them apart is the discipline to adapt, learn, and keep moving forward.

That’s where planning matters. A strong business plan isn’t just a document; it’s a guide. When markets change or costs go up, a clear blueprint helps business owners make confident decisions instead of reactive ones. From a lender’s perspective, we look for clarity of vision, a realistic growth plan, and an understanding of both opportunity and risk. Discipline and foresight can turn good ideas into lasting success.

Choosing the right banking partner is just as crucial. Financing should be a conversation, not merely a transaction. Collaborating with a banker knowledgeable about the Northeast Arkansas economy means working with someone who understands local industries, seasonal trends, and community dynamics. It also ensures access to the right type of capital at the right time, whether that’s SBA lending, equipment financing, or a line of credit designed to support cash flow. Smart capital promotes smart growth.

Growth needs balance. Growing too quickly can strain systems and staff; slowing down may cause missed opportunities. Successful companies grow wisely by steadily expanding capacity, talent, and infrastructure in line with demand. They know that sustainable progress beats quick wins.

Finally, community is not separate from growth; it’s part of the strategy. Success is rarely accidental; it’s a deliberate progression from a solid plan to a strong team, supported by partners who understand the local landscape. When you support Northeast Arkansas, Northeast Arkansas supports you in return. That mutual commitment is often the quiet advantage behind our most enduring local businesses.

Congratulations to all this year’s nominees. Your leadership, perseverance, and commitment to this region deserve recognition.
