Frank Benny Payton, 90, of Mountainburg, Arkansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on July 4, 2025—just two days shy of his 91st birthday.
Born July 6, 1934, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Frank lived a life defined by service, talent, and quiet dedication. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a devoted member of the Clear Creek Masonic Lodge. His professional career as a civil engineer with the government reflected his keen intellect and commitment to making a difference.
Frank was a man of many gifts. A talented musician, he found joy in playing the guitar, bass, and fiddle, and shared his love of music freely with those around him. He was also a skilled craftsman, known for his ability to build beautiful fiddles by hand—an art that combined his patience, creativity, and love for detail. Whether working in his garden or tinkering in his shop, Frank took pride in anything he could create with his hands.
Above all else, Frank cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw who led by example with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carol (Spears) Payton; his parents, Austin Payton and Ora (Hayes) Secrist; and his siblings, Jack Payton, Dean Payton, Joe Payton, Imogene Barker, and Juanita Payton.
Frank is survived by his son, Brad Payton of Mountainburg, Arkansas; his daughter, Tami Harris and husband Todd of Mountainburg, Arkansas; and his grandchildren, Anna Belle Payton, Emma Payton, Payton Harris, and Ava Mae Harris—all of whom were a source of great pride and joy.
Cremation is under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
