Ernie Gene “Speedwagon” Woodruff, age 63, passed away peacefully at his home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on June 28, 2025. He was born on November 28, 1961, in Saint Clair, Missouri, to Forrest Roy and Leota (Southards) Woodruff.
Ernie was a hardworking and dedicated man throughout his life, working in a variety of trades including truck driving, masonry, and mechanical work. He was well known for his generous spirit and willingness to help others whenever he could. He had a deep love for his family and found great joy in spending time with his beloved dog, Harley. Ernie also had a passion for NASCAR, barrel racing, and show horses, interests that brought him many friendships over the years. In recent years, Ernie loved studying the Bible, reading it daily. He was deeply loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Leota Woodruff; his grandparents, Frank and Alta Southards and Homer and Clara Woodruff; his siblings, Mike Woodruff, Debbie Woodruff, and Stormy Martin; his niece, Cassie Alexander; his nephews, Charles Alexander and Bryan Baker; and his two brothers-in-law, Kevin Huddleston and Del Howe.
Ernie is survived by his estranged wife, Tammy Woodruff; his sisters, Sandy Howe, Carla Forte and husband Dickie, and Kim Murphree; his brother, J.D. Woodruff and wife Doris; his sister-in-law, Paula Woodruff; and his dear friends, Bobbie Sanders and Tom Norman and wife Jackie.
A graveside service will be held on August 31, 2025, at Mount Herman Cemetery in Lenox, Missouri. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
