Christie Lynn (Mahar) Darter

Christie “Sissy” Lynn Darter, age 53, of Van Buren, passed away on May 9, 2025. She was born in Fort Smith on November 11, 1971, and was a beloved daughter to the late James and Sarah Sue (Sangster) Mahar.

Sissy graduated from Northside High School and later married the love of her life, Shawn Darter, on February 22, 1992 in Fort Smith. She worked for Baptist Health and was known for her warmth, kindness, and caring nature. She enjoyed bird watching and participated in 5K marathons. Above all, she loved her family dearly and spoiled her grandchildren with endless love and affection.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Sue Mahar, and her brother, Ronnie Mahar.

Sissy’s legacy of love lives on in the hearts of her surviving family, including her devoted husband of 33 years, Shawn Darter; her two daughters, Sarah Darter and Shawna Coker (and husband Logan); and her three cherished grandchildren: Macy, Juliet, and Garret. She is also survived by her brother, James “Jimmy” Mahar (and wife Pam), her sister-in-laws: Angie, Debbie, and Cathi; and several loved nieces and nephews.

A visitation in Sissy’s honor will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Her funeral service will follow on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Gill Cemetery.

Pastor John Emby will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Brandon Norgaar, Michael Mahar, Bevan Brant, Jacob Farley, Darrell Sangster, and Bryan Clifton. Logan Coker will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
