Arkansas Urban Forestry Council honors six for tree care

The Arkansas Urban Forestry Council (AUFC) recently honored six for outstanding work in planting and managing trees in their communities, as well as encouraging others to do the same. The awards ceremony was held on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Joe Fox, State Forester, presented the awards. A pecan tree was planted there by all in honor of Arbor Day.

Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. Arbor Day is celebrated in Arkansas on the third Monday in March.

The 2016 Outstanding Business of the Year awards were given to Derden Landscape and Irrigation and to Carroll Electric Cooperative Corp.

Beautify Fort Smith was recognized as the 2016 Outstanding Organization of the Year.

The 2016 Outstanding Professional of the Year award was given to Richard Stafford of Whitlow Engineering.

Dr. Lynne Thompson and Frieda Schroder were recognized for 2016 Outstanding Volunteer or Volunteer Program.
