The stars will be out in Benton County during the first week of May, and not solely because the Bentonville Film Festival will be going on.

The 2016 Eighth Circuit Judicial Conference is scheduled May 3-5, headquartered at the Embassy Suites Northwest Arkansas in Rogers. It’s an annual event for all judges and members of the federal, state and local bars in the U.S. Court of Appeals Eighth Circuit, which encompasses Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Though there are no public events on the three-day agenda, we have learned that U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts will be in Northwest Arkansas as part of the lineup of conference guests and speakers.

We also are told that the luncheon speaker on May 4 is Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School who was MLB’s chief labor lawyer until being elected to succeed Bud Selig as commissioner in January 2015.
