Dr. Kannam has joined Sparks Health System clinic in Van Buren

Dr. Vijay Kannam has joined Sparks Health System and is working at the Sparks Clinic Family Medicine located at 2010 Chestnut, Suite H in Van Buren.
Kannam will see patients of all ages for minor illnesses and a variety of chronic medical problems including hypertension, diabetes, kidney diseases and heart conditions.
He recently earned his degree in family medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Before that he earned a master’s degree in public health at Missouri State University in Springfield.
“I come from a rural background and have seen the problems that can come from a lack of primary care practices in small communities,” Kannam said in a statement. “That’s what led me to become a physician.”
During his education, Kannam also worked as a public health intern and volunteer at the Arkansas Department of Health in Little Rock for three years where he helped develop programs to improve maternal and child health and reduce infant mortality rates in southeast Arkansas counties.
Sparks Health System includes Sparks Regional Medical Center, Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren, Sparks Clinic, Sparks PremierCare and the fully hospital-integrated Marvin Altman Fitness Center.
