New Centerton Supercenter Delayed, Moving Forward

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced in March 2014 that it was building a new Supercenter in Centerton that would open this summer.

No, you didn’t imagine that.

Dirt still hasn’t turned on the location at the southeast corner of Centerton Boulevard and South Fish Hatchery Road. Part of the site is in a flood zone, and the construction, according to one of our Centerton sources, has been held up by some sort of special permit required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It was only recently approved this summer.

A Walmart spokesman didn’t comment on the reason for the delay, but assures us that the project is still moving forward. With a few last approvals from the city, officials expect to break ground this fall.
