Carman McBride, an Environmental and Spatial Technology facilitator at Don R. Roberts Elementary School in Little Rock, is $25,000 richer today after being named a 2014-15 Milken Educator in a surprise announcement.

The $25,000 check comes from the Milken Family Foundation, which has awarded more than $65 million to more than 2,600 educators since beginning the program in 1987.

More than 70 Arkansas educators have been recognized since the state joined the program in 1991.

McBride was the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2010-11, when she taught fourth grade, according to an Arkansas Department of Education press release.

She previously taught at College Hill Elementary School in Texarkana for two years. She received a bachelor of science in elementary education from Texas A&M University in Texarkana, Texas.
