On Sunday’s upcoming Capitol View TV show, Second District Congressional candidates Republican French Hill and Democrat Pat Hays square off in a debate.

The race has heated up in the last two weeks as a series of negative ads has taken the contest off the subjects of domestic and foreign issues.

In an advance released on Saturday, Capitol View reports:

Hill called an advertisement airing from the Hays campaign detailing supposed connections between the Delta Trust founder and disgraced former Democrat state treasurer Martha Shoffner “atrocious.”

“It’s dishonest and you ought to take it down Pat and absolutely apologize for it because it’s not true,” Hill admonished.

Hays says he stands by the facts presented in the 30-second spot running in the Little Rock television market.

“All I’m doing is sharing what the facts were,” Hays says. “There’s no connection I’m trying to draw other than simply stating what the facts are.”

Hays says he maintained a positive campaign for eleven months until the Hill campaign went negative.

“If anyone ought to apologize, I guess it ought to be you,” Hays retorted.

The full discussion airs Sunday morning on KARK Ch. 4 at 8:30 a.m. Hays defended the ad last week in an interview on Talk Business & Politics.
