As indicated by its handle, new fitness venue Bend Studios in Fayetteville is all about flexibility.

The concept is not only present in Bend’s barre, yoga, Pilates and spin classes, but also in the way the owners run their business.

Erica Baker and Beth Porter both are in marketing and pay keen attention to their clients’ wants, adapting their services to suit them.

When a client requested personal training, the owners created a program for her. If a potential customer wants a tour of the studio during off hours, they are happy to oblige. And the studio’s nine instructors, which include a classically trained ballerina and a two-time Ironman finisher, are encouraged to offer variations of exercises to accommodate students of every fitness level.

The owners’ marketing background also helped them cultivate a boutique vibe. They carefully chose the logo and décor of the space to reflect this. “It’s really a lifestyle brand,” Porter said.

Bend Studios sells high-end workout clothing and accessories as a time-saver for clients who realize they need an item before, after or even during a workout.

It’s a small operation, with one part-time front desk clerk. The owners took out a three-year lease on a 1,600-SF space inside a 19,500-SF building at 2907 Joyce Blvd., which they say offers a cozier setting than large fitness clubs.

Baker said their clients can enjoy the benefits of a small studio, including a more personal relationship with instructors and hassle-free parking, but Bend offers more variety than many small studios that only focus on one type of exercise.

Bend opened in December, but it is now starting to hit its stride, Baker said. “Once people come, they come back — and they tend to bring friends.”

There are no membership fees. Each class is paid for separately at $18 apiece, with significant discounts in package deals. Also, the first class is free.

Bend is the first studio in Arkansas to use RealRyder indoor bicycles, which turn and tilt with the rider in order to simulate the experience of outdoor cycling better than traditional stationary bikes.
