Second District Cong. Tim Griffin (R) announced an endorsement for Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday (Nov. 13).

Hutchinson, considered the front-runner for the GOP nomination, faces two challengers in the primary, Curtis Coleman and Rep. Debra Hobbs (R-Rogers).

Griffin tells Talk Business Arkansas, “I think he is the best choice and best candidate for Governor, and beyond that, I believe he will be our nominee and we need to get behind him as a party.”

Griffin added, “Asa is a serious leader who brings unrivaled experience and conservative innovative ideas – like his tax relief proposal – to the Governor’s race and will move Arkansas forward. Asa understands what it takes to grow jobs, attract investment and deliver smarter state government that respects hard-earned taxpayer dollars. I am going to do everything I can to help him get elected. I am proud to call Asa a friend and look forward to calling him Governor.”

A two-term representative, Griffin is not seeking a third term in Congress.

“I am honored and delighted to have the support of Congressman Griffin. Tim has served our nation both in uniform and in the United States Congress, and has been a great representative for Arkansas in Washington. I am proud to call him my friend and I am grateful for the confidence he has placed in me. Tim and I share a love for Arkansas and we both desire leadership in this state that will move Arkansas forward,” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson has received support from other Arkansas elected officials. They include Senate Pro Temp Michael Lamoureux and House Speaker Davy Carter as well as incoming Senate Pro Temp Jonathan Dismang, Senators Cecile Bledsoe, Ron Caldwell, and Bart Hester, and Representatives John Burris, Andy Davis, Jon Eubanks, Jeremey Gillam, Bill Gossage, Micah Neal, and Matthew Shepherd. Those GOP elected officials hosted a fundraiser for Hutchinson earlier this summer.

Former conservative Democratic State Sen. Jerry Taylor of Pine Bluff also endorsed Hutchinson earlier this year.
