Centennial Bank today named Davy Carter as regional president.

According to a press release, Carter will oversee the acquisition of Liberty Bank, which is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Conway banking company Home BancShares — holding company for Centennial Bank — has agreed to buy Jonesboro banking company Liberty Bancshares — holding company for Liberty Bank — in a $280 million deal.

The signing of the definitive agreement was announced at a Little Rock press conference June 25.

When approved, the merger will form the second-largest financial institution headquartered in Arkansas, with total assets of approximately $7.1 billion.

“We were grateful Davy returned to our corporate family a few months ago,” Centennial Bank CEO Randy Sims said in a press release. “This will be the perfect opportunity for Davy and the bank.”

Carter, a Republican from Cabot, is the current speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he is serving his third term.

He is a finance graduate of Arkansas State University and an honors graduate of University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s William H. Bowen School of Law.

Carter is also an alumnus of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

In May, Carter was named executive president at Home BancShares. He had previously been a division president for Centennial Bank in Cabot.
