Republican State Rep. Kim Hammer of Benton announced today on his representative Facebook page that he plans to run for Speaker of the House in the next legislative session.

“Today, I’m announcing that I’ll seek election as Speaker of the House next session. I look forward to the work ahead,” posted Hammer.

Hammer currently serves as the House co-chair of the Joint Auditing Committee, which has been a fairly active committee examining various state agencies.  If re-elected in 2014, he will be serving his third and final term in the House before term limits.

He joins Republican Rep. Jeremy Gillam of Judsonia who announced last month he would run for the Speaker’s post.  Other names include Republican Rep. Matthew Shepherd and Democratic Reps. Tommy Wren and Nate Steel.
