Crossland Construction Company Inc. announced recently it was awarded second place in the Building Division category at the Associated General Contractors of America’s 2013 Construction Safety Excellence Awards.

The award was presented at the AGC of America Annual Convention on March 8 in Palm Springs, Calif. Crossland is one of 6,000 general contractors represented by the AGC.

CSEA, according to the release, recognizes those construction companies that excel at safety and health performance, examining each candidate’s commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control. Final awards included an oral presentation by Crossland before a five-judge panel.

Crossland instituted a program called S.T.O.P. — Safety Through Organization and Planning — in 2008. The company credits the program, along with required safety training of at least 20 hours each year, among the reasons for its continued improvement in its annual safety incident rate.

The company has offices in eight cities, including Rogers.

“We are extremely proud of how our employees have embraced the safety training and tools provided to them to achieve this prestigious award,” CEO Ivan Crossland Jr. said in the release.

Houston-based Tellepsen took first-place honors in the Building Division category.
