State Drug Czar Opposing Medical Marijuana Initiative
Arkansas’ State Drug Director, Fran Flener, will hold a press conference on Friday morning to discuss her opposition to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act.
According to a press release, Flener will “discuss the negative impact of the act and encourage Arkansans to vote against it.”
The press conference will be held at 10 am at the Association of Arkansas Counties headquarters in Little Rock.
The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act will be on the ballot this November.
The medical marijuana proposal, which will be on the November ballot, would allow for up to 30 nonprofit dispensaries in Arkansas. Local cities and counties could choose to ban them.
Marijuana would only be available to people with a prescription for certain health conditions, including cancer, glaucoma, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDs, Alzheimer’s disease and several other conditions. The proposal allows for a patient to have up to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana without the threat of prosecution.
On Sunday night, Talk Business and Hendrix College will release new poll results of Arkansas voter attitudes regarding the medicinal marijuana measure, which shows opinions on the topic have shifted significantly since an earlier poll in July that registered support at 47% and opposition at 46%.
The results will be released on Talk Business, Sunday night at 10 pm on Fox 16.
