Summit Medical announces new doctor, urgent care facility

Dr. Fernando Arzola has joined Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, and the hospital has also announced the opening of CarePlus Van Buren Urgent Care.

Arzola is a non-invasive cardiologist who works to detect and treat heart disease. Patients with issues such as a history of heart disease, chest pain with unknown cause or valvular heart disease may be referred for a cardiology evaluation from a primary care physician.

Arzola’s clinic, Crawford Cardiology, will open mid-September, but appointments can be made now. The clinic is located in Van Buren at 2010 Chestnut, Suite I. Arzola is now consulting at Summit Medical Center as well as consulting with Emergency Room physicians regarding cardiology patients.

Arzola graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and the Medical School located in Cavey, Puerto Rico. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency in Ohio and a Cardiology Fellowship in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Arzola has been in practice in the Opelousas, La., area for the past 12 years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a Major in the Medical Corps in 1997.

CAREPLUS
Drs. Chans Nouansavane and Mohammad Idris are set to work at the CarePlus Van Buren Urgent Care to treat sore throats, sprains, strains and broken bones, upper and lower respiratory conditions, minor cuts, nausea and vomiting, acute fever, acute ear infections and many other minor emergencies.

Nouansavane had been practicing at Cornerstone Family Clinic since 2009, but is now seeing patients in the Urgent Care clinic. He completed a residency in family medicine at AHEC in Fort Smith. Nouansavane graduated from Van Buren High School and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He graduated from Ross University School of Medicine.

Idris is also a graduate of the Fort Smith AHEC Residency program. He was awarded the 2012 Resident Clinical Instructor Award from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, AHEC – West residency program.

The CarePlus Van Buren Urgent Care center is open seven days a week and is located at 14 Gothic Ridge Road in Van Buren. During weekdays, the hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
