Crawford County literacy program receives grant

The Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy has been awarded a $6,200 grant from the Dollar General Foundation. The money will help bring awareness to the community of the mission of CCVL to advance the literacy competencies of area adults and to provide a promotional campaign to solicit students and volunteer tutors.
“The generosity of Dollar General is greatly appreciated. These funds will aid in developing community awareness and an opportunity to bring interested students into the program,” said Dee Carroll, CCVL director. “We will also be able to share an opportunity for volunteer tutors to join the effort and enjoy a feeling of accomplishment in bettering the lives of individuals with literacy needs and their families, the workplace and the community.”
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards grants to organizations in communities served by Dollar General. These literacy grants support nonprofit organizations that provide literacy services such as adult basic education, GED preparation, English language acquisition to programs for those who struggle with reading.
The Foundation supports initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded more that $71.2 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 4.1 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy, a general education diploma or English proficiency.
