Opening November 11, 2011, with a 2:00 p. m. reception, the Fort Smith Museum of History will present a tribute to Fort Smith’s military veterans. Including such famous names as General Benjamin Bonneville and Fort Smith’s own Captain John Rogers, the exhibit uses artifacts from the collection to tell the veteran’s stories. Civil War veteran George Sengel will be represented. Learn about Fort Smith natives Admiral Edward Walter Eberle and Admiral Charles “Savvy” Cooke who both achieved distinction and fame.

Local World War II veteran’s stories will be told through information collected from the Fort Smith Historical Society’s ongoing Oral History Project. Along with uniforms and weapons, quotes from the interviews make the stories come to life.

Concluding with present day veterans and Fort Smith’s first female graduate of the United States Military Academy, the exhibit will honor many of the city’s veterans. The exhibit will run through February 2012.
