Wal-Mart VP is No. 23 on Fortune ‘Most Powerful Women’ Poll
We admit it: We’re suckers for those Fortune magazine polls. You know, the ones that list the most this or the best that. The most recent one we caught was the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business,” and it predictably included a couple of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. representatives.
Susan Chambers, executive vice president of Wal-Mart’s Global People Division, is ranked 23rd with the following comment: “She calls the shots on everything from recruitment to benefits and pay for Wal-Mart’s two million employees around the world. The only woman reporting directly to CEO Mike Duke, she also oversees Wal-Mart’s ethics office.”
At No. 35, meanwhile, is Rosalind Brewer, president of Walmart South. The comment on Brewer: “This onetime scientist at Kimberly-Clark has gone from overseeing Wal-Mart’s operations in Georgia to the Southwest region and now the entire South. In her expanded role, which started in January, she touches everything from purchasing to real estate across 1,200 stores. Revenue in territory: $85 billion plus.”
For those keeping score, PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi is ranked No. 1.
