Crawford County filing period ends; no names for three posts (Corrected)

The filing period has ended for candidates seeking city offices across Crawford County. Three city council positions – two in Rudy, and one in Kibler, remain empty.

According to the Crawford County Clerk’s office, in at least one case, the proper paperwork was not turned in on time.

Bowing out of November’s election is Mulberry Mayor Betty Feller. Feller was appointed to the office August 2005, after Mayor Jeff Marvin resigned. Feller’s husband, Arnold Feller, served as mayor from 1975 to 1998.

Three candidates filed for Van Buren’s city attorney, including incumbent Don Jenkins. Kevin Holmes, who ran an unsuccessful primary campaign against Republican Gary Deffenbaugh for the District 66 State Representative nomination, is seeking the office, as is the former Van Buren City Attorney Candice Settle.

In May, the city council voted to change the position to part time, reduce the pay from $56,644 to $1,000 per month, and scale back the duties associated with the office. The changes take effect Jan. 1.
