Two big economic events are expected to happen in central Arkansas next week, according to Roby Rock, our content partner at Talk Business.
Verizon Wireless has announced it will close its $28.1 billion deal with Little Rock-based Alltel on Friday, Jan. 9. The deal will make Verizon the country’s largest wireless carrier with about 78 million subscribers. The deal could also result in the loss of more than 1,000 good former Alltel corporate jobs in central Arkansas.
On Monday (Jan. 5), Gov. Mike Beebe and state economic development officials are planning to announce a major jobs announcement. Early speculation points to a new vehicle parts plant in central Arkansas. Or could it be the wind energy firm that Beebe recently suggested was looking at Arkansas?
