The Dickson Street entertainment scene will soon have a new offering for those not so inclined to stand shoulder to shoulder with the beer-drinking college crowd.

Fayetteville native Damien Armstrong is opening an upscale bar and lounge called Lit at 436 Watson St.

The front of the building on West Avenue is occupied by the bar z330. Armstrong’s lounge will occupy the back half, with frontage on Watson.

“It faces the alley from the patio, sort of catty-cornered from the Legacy building,” he said.

The bar will cater toward the young professional crowd, Armstrong said.

The lounge will provide a unique, relaxing atmosphere, he said, an oasis from the loud and crowded beer joints that line Dickson Street. It will be more in line with Theo’s or Bordino’s, he said.

“The main reason I’m opening it, is there are fewer places in Fayetteville that I like to hang out,” he said. “I’m trying to fill a niche, create a place that me and my friends would like to go to.”

While things are subject to change, Armstrong imagines the lounge will feature a house DJ and comfortable seating.

“It will have lots of seating, couches, booths, things like that,” he said.

He also plans to offer a creative selection of martinis and other specialty drinks as well as a selective wine list.

Armstrong has applied for a liquor permit and hopes to get started on construction soon.

“We’re shooting to be open in four to six months,” he said.
