Captroppa Puts Business up for Sale

You might remember an item from our June 2 Whispers in which we mentioned three “gentlemen only” bars up for sale in Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri. Asking price: $4 million.

Well-known entrepreneur Tony Catroppa – aka “Tony C” – owns those bars. He also owns Sunrise Café, Tony C’s Bar and Grill and Jerzee’s Sports Bar & Grill, all in Fayetteville.

It looks like the “gentleman’s” clubs aren’t the only businesses Tony C is divesting himself of.

Jerzee’s, at 326 West Ave., is listed at bizbuysell.com for $280,000, boasting “over 30 TVs, stage, basketball court. Best sports bar in the area.”

Over on Garland Avenue, Tony C’s Bar and Grill will set you back $180,000. Next door, the Sunrise Café, with its “Waffle House atmosphere,” 24/7 breakfast availability and tasteful motto “Nobody is ugly after 2 a.m.” is $150,000.

We’re not sure whether Tony C is leaving the area or retiring, because there was no reason for selling included in any of the listings. But the inquiring minds over at fayettevilleflyer.com wondered if pending improvements to Garland Avenue might have anything to do with the decision to sell.

Widening Garland will almost certainly cause parking headaches for those businesses and many others along that narrow street.

Catroppa declined to comment.

If you’re the adventurous type, there is another Tony C enterprise listed for sale.

A “Billard and Country Western Dance Hall” (we assume that was supposed to be “billiard”) at an undisclosed location in Washington County is listed for sale with the same agent.

It is 20,000 SF, with three bars, a separate dance hall area and a full-size NASCAR simulator. That would most likely be the Electric Cowgirl on West Sixth Street in Fayetteville.

According to a story in the Northwest Arkansas Times, Fayetteville Police broke up a fight at the bar a year ago.

“Police responded to a disturbance and arrived to find a large group of people gathered outside the bar pushing and yelling at each other,” according to the story. “Inside the building, a man was throwing pool balls across the room and breaking pool cues over one person’s body.”

Yikes.
