Academy of Computing Adds 21 New Members
The University of Arkansas Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering has inducted its second class into its Academy of Computing.
Recognizing persons with distinguished careers in computing, the Academy’s charter class had 61 members in 2006 with 21 more added April 7.
Data-Tronics, the IT division of ABF Freight System Inc., had several employees inducted, including current president David Hardt, former presidents Jerry Yarbrough and David Stubblefield, and longtime employees Don Hall and Jim Stevens, who were inducted posthumously.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. chief information officer Kay Palmer was honored, as were the late Don Barrett, former executive with Acxiom Corp. of Little Rock, and his wife Jennifer Barrett, who is considered one of the top five experts in the world on personal data security.
Connell Brown, who installed the first computer in Arkansas in 1957, Randall Ferguson, a veteran of IBM and a fundraiser for the UA, and the late Wray Wilkes, who started the UA Computing Center, were also inducted.
