Fire Freshener
A Fort Smith man who said his home burned because of a Glade air freshener is now suing the manufacturer of the fragrance maker, SC Johnson & Son Inc. of Racine, Wis.
Billy Quick said his house caught fire in March 2003 and an investigation revealed the Glade product caused it, according to his lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court.
Quick said the air freshener had been part of a product recall in 2002 and shouldn’t have been for sale about a year later. He said the fire caused $287,300 in damage.
Quick’s insurance carrier, Shelter Mutual Insurance Co., paid the amount. Now Quick and Shelter are trying to get the money back from SC Johnson plus other unspecified damages.
A SC Johnson spokesperson couldn’t be reached for comment.
