Fort Smith’s KMAG-FM, 99.1, tops the charts in the River Valley radio market with a 10.9 percent share in the 12-year-old and higher demographic.
The numbers come from the recently released Arbitron Inc. spring 2006 radio ratings.
The station is owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. of San Antonio and has a country music format, much like its Fayetteville brethren KKIX-FM, which dominates the Fayetteville market.
In fact, the top three stations in Fort Smith have a country music format: KOMS-FM (No. 2) with an 8.6 percent share is owned by Cumulus Broadcasting Inc. of Atlanta, Ga., and KTCS-FM (No. 3) with a 7.9 percent share is owned by Big Chief Broadcasting of Rock Island, Okla.
Clear Channel also owns the No. 5 (adult contemporary format), No. 7 (news/talk format) and No. 10 (contemporary/pop format) stations in the market, which are now all up for sale.
Cumulus, a major radio competitor to Clear Channel in multiple markets, also owns the No. 6 and No. 9 stations with urban and rock formats, respectively.
