First Arkansas Valley Bank of Russellville applied with the Arkansas State Bank Department on June 29 to open a location in Van Buren.

The bank applied and received approval for an office in Fort Smith in February. It became the 42nd unique bank in the six-county market (Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Madison, Sebastian and Washington).

FAVB is a sister to Liberty Bank of Arkansas because it is owned by the same holding company, Liberty Bancshares Inc. of Jonesboro.

The holding company had combined total assets of $2.04 billion as of March 31.

Liberty Bancshares has 42 total bank offices up and running, according to the FDIC — 27 by Liberty and 15 by FAVB. Ten of those are in the six-county area.
