Region Courts the LPGA

Readers who don’t cull through the sports pages of the Tulsa World might’ve missed a reference to Northwest Arkansas, hotel developer John Q. Hammons and the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

It seems there is at least a possibility that the LPGA’s John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic could be looking to relocate from Oklahoma to Northwest Arkansas for the 2007 tourney. The move would be to offset competition for PGA Championship sponsorship and marketing money. The championship is slated for T-town’s Southern Hills Country Club in 2007.

The John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic will be held Sept. 4-10 at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Okla, which is just outside Tulsa. Organizers and sponsors are interested in keeping the event in that area, but we figure Hammons’ significant investments in Benton and Washington counties could land the classic here at least once.

Did someone say The Blessing?
