Sometimes You Can Blame it on Spell Check
We noticed a few humorous mistakes lately.
U.S. Rep. John Boozman’s office sent out a press release the other day that referred three times to the city of “Forth Smith.”
KHBS/KHOG, Channels 40/29, had a story on its Web site that mentioned a “baron” stretch of land in Fayetteville. We don’t know if it’s owned by a nobleman, but we think they meant “barren.”
A press release from the Children’s Safety Center said “The press is encouraged to intend.” We intended to attend but never got around to it.
Of course, the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal makes mistakes, too. In a headline on the front page of our Sept. 1 issue, we stuck and extra “e” in the word “develops,” making it “developes” instead. But that’s not as funny as the time one of our reporters wrote of a golf course: “If you hit too far, you’ll find your balls in the river.”
Luckily, we found that mistake and fixed it just before the paper went out the door to be printed.
