Grin and Barrett (Media Review)
During the July 7 edition of his “Sports Rap” call-in talk show on the Arkansas Radio Network, host Chuck Barrett compared San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds to University of Arkansas Chancellor John White.
Bonds, the poster boy for aloof and abrasive professional athletes, recently said that he didn’t have to participate in Major League Baseball’s home run derby contest during the All-Star break because he’s, among other things, “a grown man.”
“Barry Bonds went to the John White school of public relations,” Barrett said. “Both have forgotten it’s not what you say, but how you say it.”
White has been criticized for his handling of a series of touchy issues such as his attempted closing of the UA Press, the closing of the UA Museum and several personnel matters. We found Barrett’s comment amusing.
The show is broadcast locally from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on KFAY, 1030 AM radio, where it originates in Fayetteville.
