Poplar House Clinic Celebrates 10 years
The Poplar House Clinic, a community outreach project of St. Mary’s Hospital and Mercy Health System, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The clinic opened in September 1992 at 1207 West Poplar Street, Rogers, to serve the underprivileged and uninsured. By the next year, the clinic expanded to twice monthly services and opened a pharmacy.
In 1994, it began offering an immunization clinic that eventually expanded to include kindergarten physicals. Since then, a mammography program, prenatal care and a diabetes program have been added. A social worker was also added in 1997 to assist needy families with social services. And, a year ago, the clinic hired its first full-time physician, Dr. Kay Morgan, a family practitioner formerly with the Pea Ridge Medical Office. More than 22,000 patients were seen at the clinic in 2001.
Poplar House Clinic had a budget of $325,000 for the last fiscal year. The Mercy Health System provides an estimated $6 million in charity care annually.
