Morning News Trims Staff

The Morning News laid off two full-time editorial employees and one half-timer in mid-September.

The full-time employees were Ben Pollock, associate editor of editorial pages, and a reporter for the Our Town section.

The Morning News reportedly has several editorial positions that have been open for some time but haven’t been filled.

Rusty Turner, managing editor of The Morning News, refused to say how many positions are unfilled at the Springdale newspaper.

“I hope we’ll be able to fill all the positions we have available,” he said.

Turner said it has taken some time to determine how many editorial employees are needed to produce four zoned editions of The Morning News. The newspaper shifted to the zoned editions last year.

Turner noted that The Morning News’ chief competitor, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, also trimmed staff a few months ago when it merged its Weekend section with the entertainment section of the Northwest Arkansas Times.
