Just in time for the holiday season, a specialty toy shop named Dilly Dally’s, opened for business in Northwest Arkansas. Already, kids have been asking for the store by name, co-owner Susan Foster said.

Kids can play with samples of the store’s toys, and Foster tried to create a fun, light atmosphere for enjoyment.

Stocked shelves of imports and educational fare offer hard-to-find and particular product lines. Thomas the Tank, a wood railway, and Brio, a European brand of train sets, can be found within Dilly Dally’s. One train chugs around the ceiling of the shop all day long.

Other toy brands in the store include Corelle, vanilla-scented playing dolls, Hello Kitty merchandise and Groovy Girls, a popular doll collection. Art supplies, videos and books also fill the 1,800-SF store.

Foster also welcomes special orders for goods that she doesn’t have stocked.

“From birth to age 99,” people can enjoy the store, Foster said, adding that several adults visit the toy shop during their lunch hour to play.

To choose her product lines, Foster relies on family. Her brother owns a similar toy shop in southern Louisiana — the two stores have the same name although they are separate entities — and they often discuss trends in the business.

Several nieces and nephews also help Foster remain familiar with popular toys in different age groups.

Before opening the toy store in Rogers, Foster worked as a registered nurse, and Dilly Dally’s marks her first business ownership.
