After volunteering for three years to teach art classes at Reagan Elementary School in Rogers, Rhonda Brister decided to market her curriculum. Brister’s new business, Studio Fun, supplements public and home-school educations with art studies.
Young folks ages 4-18 can take classes for almost any creative medium, including sketching, painting, rubber-stamping, sewing, beading, origami, poster making, stenciling, mosaic tiling and quilting.
Brister plans to add a pottery wheel and three computers for graphic design to Studio Fun early next year.
“Creative fun” defines the Studio Fun goal, she said. Students in the classrooms learn about the color wheel and problem solving while they create original works.
“I have such a hope that the kids will delve into something they love to do,” Brister said. “The fun, confidence and skill you learn with crafting can last a lifetime.”
Brister, who teaches all the classes by herself, manages classes of eight students, and a total of 80 students per month.
She used about $4,000 opening the business, and classes cost $45 per month for one two-hour session each week.
