City reserve funds were used to pay for the new 23,400-SF Springdale Fire Station No. 1 at 417 S. Holcomb St. The $3.6 million facility was built on the 1.74-acre site formerly occupied by the city’s old No. 1 station.

The station, expected to open by March, includes individual sleeping rooms, a day and kitchen area, a dining room, an exercise room and a training room that will accommodate about 90 people.

There are six drive-through bays each on the front and back of the building.

Former mayor Charles McKinney executed the project contracts.

Buildings Inc. of Springdale was the general contractor and Wittenberg, Deloney & Davidson Inc. of Fayetteville were the architects.
