Some businesses just come naturally. Cooking with his family on his backyard grill, Steven Bowman recognized his new career. After working as a crane operator, Bowman started a restaurant with his wife and daughter.

“I wanted to get away from the manual labor,” Bowman says.

Although the floating restaurant is Bowman’s first experience working in food service, Bowman says he perfected his hamburger by using different spices and “tinkering around on the grill at home.”

Along with a part-time weekend cook, Bowman’s wife and daughter make up the rest of The Café’s staff, and the restaurant serves a full breakfast and lunch.

With only three steady members on staff, each person carries their part of the routine.

“I do whatever needs to be done,” Bowman says.

Weekends at The Café are busy with vacationers on the lake, but Bowman says the weekdays are a little slow. Currently, Bowman is using light radio advertising.

“Anyone and everyone” is welcome to try the family burger, Bowman says. “Everybody says it’s the best burger in town.”
