Painting since she was an eight-year-old girl in Japan, Norie Allen has finally given her time to her art. After retiring with her husband last year, Allen devoted her time to a painting still life, landscapes and house portraits.

“I paint for six hours each day, and I love it,” Allen says. Allen makes it a point to only fill her time with the things she wants to do.

“I used to paint people’s portraits, but it takes a lot out of me,” Allen says. “I stay at home and paint mostly wildflowers. Bella Vista is a good area for wildflowers.”

Word-of-mouth is the only advertising Allen uses, but she plans to show her work at the Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival in October.

Customers can request special paintings from Allen, and each work is framed by Allen’s husband.

Since moving to the United States 40 years ago, Allen has worked extensively in various creative arts. Educated in design, Allen worked for many years with Japanese floral arrangements, or ikebana. Allen also worked as a wedding consultant for many years.
