Brian Down, who had the Sub Station franchise is Rogers since 1996, has split from the Sub Station, renaming his restaurant as Big Guy Subs and opening a second location at 900 Southwest “A” St. in Bentonville in late March.

Now, Down has a 1,800-SF restaurant at 204 W. Walnut St. in Rogers that seats 75 diners and a 2,400-SF eatery in Bentonville that seats 65.

Joe Weber of Springdale, who owned franchise rights to Sub Station, changed the other four Sub Stations to Loafin’ Joe’s in August 1998. Weber owns two Loafin’ Joe’s in Fayetteville, and Rick McCain owns Loafin’ Joe’s franchises in Springdale and Lowell.

Down says he has changed some of the items on his menu from that of his Sub Station days, but Weber says Big Guy’s is “totally different” from Sub Station.

Down says he has about 25 different submarine sandwiches and six different salads. The bread is made from scratch at Stone Mill Bread & Flour Co. in Fayetteville.

Big Guy Subs is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Weber says he’s still looking to sell franchise rights to more Loafin’ Joe’s and would like to have franchisees in Rogers and Bentonville in particular.
