Just last month, Pat and Willard Walker gave $4 million through a charitable trust they have established. There’s a Wal-Mart connection there, also, since Willard Walker was the first manager of Sam Walton’s five-and-dime store in Fayetteville.

But $4 million must be the magic dollar figure. JBU officials tell us the university has received “several” other similarly sized donations, all of them made anonymously.
