Tyson all ears
Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale has not officially placed its pork and seafood divisions on the sale block, but the company is exploring the option of divesting itself of everything except its core poultry operations.
The asking price for the divisions is apparently in the $200 million to $400 million range. The possible sale is part of an initiative the company began in 1998 to concentrate on the marketing and producing of chicken and poultry-based food products.
An Associated Press report Jan. 16 from Alaska erroneously said Tyson was considering selling off its beef operations. The company has been divested of beef for some time.
Tyson has reduced part of its fishing operations in Alaska as part of the federal Magnuson Act, which helped regulate fishing quotas in the North Pacific.
Executives at Cargill Inc. of Minneapolis, Minn., say their company has not made the company an offer for its pork division, but a Tyson representative recently did a video presentation for several interested parties.
Tyson has pork interests in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama and North Carolina.
