Harps Food Stores closed its 34-year-old store in Springdale’s Plaza Shopping Center on Jan. 11 for renovations. The store is scheduled to reopen in mid-April.

“When all is said and done, the only things that will be the same are the walls and the slab,” says J. Max Van Hoose, director of construction for Harps Food Stores.

“It was pretty rough looking outside,” he says. “It’ll have a whole new frontage. It’ll be a whole new store. It should have a brand new, clean, fresh look.”

Van Hoose says work began outside the store in November. Inside renovations required the company to close the store in January.

The old 20,187-SF store will be 22,948 SF when renovations are completed and space added to the building for a new pharmacy, an indoor branch of Community Bank and additional lobby space. The renovations are expected to cost $943,000. Commerce Construction Inc. of Springdale is the contractor for the work.
