Rebrand In Order for Mobile App Formerly Known as Overwatch
After settling a trademark suit, ARK Challenge 2013 winner Josh Moody says he will soon debut a renamed, rebranded and new-and-improved version of his interactive gaming app, previously known as Overwatch.
Innovis Labs, of which Moody is founder and CEO, had applied for a trademark on the Overwatch name six months before Blizzard Entertainment of Irvine, California, applied for a trademark on Overwatch in April 2014.
Innovis’ product is a mobile app that brings GPS-enabled video-game features to live-action games like Airsoft, paintball and laser-tag. It has software and hardware components. Blizzard’s Overwatch is a team-based shooting game.
After a series of events that included the suspension of Blizzard’s trademark application and a since-terminated co-existence agreement, Innovis filed a trademark infringement suit against Blizzard in May.
However, with judgment still pending, it subsequently filed to surrender its registered trademark on Oct. 21, according to Polygon.com, a video game news site.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed.
When Moody started Innovis, he lived in Little Rock, attending the Catholic High School for Boys. He now resides in Fayetteville.
