Northwest Arkansas Community College alumni and supporters will soon be able to show support for the school by using an Arvest Bank debit card.
Development of the new affinity card is still in progress, but should be available later this summer.
What’s an affinity card? We weren’t that familiar, so we asked.
It’s a regular debit card that has the logo of the issuing bank, but it’s also specially designed to include the colors and logo of a local organization that endorses it, usually a college, high school or nonprofit.
Through the partnership, a bank will make a donation to the organization each time a new card is activated.
How popular is this kind of program? We asked again.
In Arkansas, not counting the more than 8,000 Northwest Arkansas Naturals cards that began with the team’s arrival in 2008, there are about 10,500 Arvest affinity cards in circulation.
Arvest is among the top 20 debit-card issuers in America according to Visa, and the bank rolled out its full affinity program in 2011. It now has 162 card partnerships, 68 of them with Arkansas high schools and colleges.
The most popular card? The Bentonville Tigers.
