Stricken with Crohn’s disease as a teenager, Heidi Tankersley was forced to change the way she took care of her body through nutrition.

Eventually, Tankersley started to examine not just her food intake, but her entire environment. Now Tankersely is spreading her knowledge of healthier living through A Splash of Green, a company that sells “green” products in 10 different categories.

Whether it’s a $5 bottle of bathroom cleaner, a $45 gallon of paint or  $5,000 worth of wood flooring, A Splash of Green has potential customers covered.

“All of our products are focused on moms creating healthy homes for their families, and maintaining that home,” Tankersley said. “It really is our passion to educate moms on things that are hidden or otherwise unknown.”

Tankersely is part of a staff of four that includes her husband, Jacob. He started Greenovation Builders, a “green” home construction and renovation company, in July 2009.

A Splash of Green was born after the Tankersleys became more and more familiar with the environmentally friendly products he uses. Heidi Tankersley meets with clients to help them assess and address concerns about products in any of the 10 categories.

The aim, she said, is to help families find healthy – and financially feasible – ways to live in their own homes.

“Any little bit of higher price now is an investment in your family,” Tankersley said.

Hannah Harris has a simple message for would-be Pilates Plus clients.

“We supply everything,” Harris said. “All you need to bring is yourself.”

The 2,500-SF space includes a large studio stocked with enough equipment for group Pilates training. There’s also a 450-SF space for mat classes.

Towels, mats, etc. also are provided in a purposefully relaxed atmosphere.

“It’s not a gym. We don’t want it to be a gym,” said Harris, adding there are no signup or membership fees. “We have a very welcoming environment.”

A staff of six instructors offers individual and/or group instruction in yoga and dance in addition to Pilates. Massage service also is available.

Mat classes start at $10, while personal training sessions range from $20-$50.

Yoga instructor Danielle Lee said early response has been positive.

“It’s still a growing business,” Lee said, “but everybody that’s been here has stayed here.”
